Our Story
In September 1994, The Coffee Company’s husband and wife team, Robert and Sheila Stephenson, set out to bring speciality coffee and equipment to all types of businesses throughout the South West and beyond. The company began in a spare room at the family home in Torquay, with a make do desk for Robert in the kitchen, all invoices typed on an old typewriter and boxes of coffee stacked in the family’s hallway.
With a commitment to quality, hard work and an unrelenting thirst for product knowledge, Robert and Sheila’s venture grew and grew and in 2004 their eldest son, Richard, joined the company bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience after working at Xerox for many years. In 2011 their youngest son, Matthew, joined the company after many years in the customer service field.
The company has gone from strength to strength and in 2014 we outgrew our premises in Torquay and moved to our present home in Newton Abbot. Even though the company lost Robert in 2016 to cancer, Richard and Matthew remain passionate about the business and continue to strive to provide the best possible customer service and to keep our family business heading in the direction that Robert wished.
In 2012 we also created and established The Devon Tea Company and more recently The Devon Chocolate Company. We are passionate about quality leaf teas and offer both loose leaf and also bagged leaf tea and source from suppliers who are members of the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP). The Devon Chocolate Company offers indulgent chocolate flakes and chocolate powder used to create fantastic luxury hot chocolate drinks.
We specialise in offering one of the most unique range of products and services available in the industry including the finest coffee beans, loose leaf tea and hot chocolate, the world’s best machines and all the support and training you need. Our customers are of all sizes from small independents, coffee shops, cafés, restaurants and hotels to large corporate businesses.
